Listeners of Genesis Radio were in for an unexpected surprise this week when an artificial intelligence voice was caught reading explicit rap lyrics live on air. The incident, which occurred during a test of new AI-driven content delivery, has ignited debate among fans and station staff alike.
According to reports, the AI—designed to assist with automated show elements—accidentally pulled uncensored rap lyrics from a song database and read them in a monotone, robotic voice during what was supposed to be a routine announcement. The explicit content aired for approximately 30 seconds before a station engineer intervened and cut the feed.
Genesis Radio station managers, including co-leaders Doc (who serves as program director and engineer) and Brice Mull, quickly addressed the situation, assuring listeners that the incident was unintentional and that safeguards are being implemented to prevent similar mishaps in the future.
“We’re always exploring new technology to enhance the listener experience, but this was not the way we intended to do it,” Doc said in a statement. “We regret that inappropriate content made it to air and are reviewing our automation systems to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
Some listeners found the incident hilarious, with social media flooded with comments like “AI spitting bars on Genesis Radio—who had this on their 2025 bingo card?” Others, however, expressed concern about the potential for future mishaps, especially given the station’s wide audience.
The AI mishap has sparked a broader conversation about automation in radio broadcasting, particularly the risks of using artificial intelligence for unsupervised content delivery. With automation becoming more prevalent in the industry, the Genesis Radio team is now working on refining their AI integration while maintaining the station’s signature human touch.
For now, one thing is clear: Genesis Radio won’t be letting AI freestyle anytime soon.
